Independent Wedding Celebrant Vs Registrar

Updated: May 15

I might as well start with the big question on everyone's lips:

What's the difference between an independent wedding celebrant and a registrar?

My response is always the same, a celebrant offers freedom and creativity to your wedding day.

I can offer you time to really get to know you as a couple. I want to know all about you as a couple, your family and their influence on your relationship, people close to you, your love story, how you got to where you are today and your aspirations for the future.

With all of that gorgeous warm and fuzzy stuff, I will beaver away at my laptop for hours and write a wedding ceremony that encompasses you perfectly.

If you fancy doing a shot ceremony half way through, we can do that (licensing permitting).

Fancy your ceremony on a beach somewhere, with just a few of you, not a problem.

Parents back garden? Sure. A woodland at dusk? You, name it.

I want to change the narrative that the wedding ceremony is the least interesting part of the wedding. Let me lead your wedding ceremony with confidence, fun and leave everyone waxing lyrical about independent celebrants. We are going to start on a high!

The only thing I can't do is legally marry you. What you can do is contact the local council to register your intention to marry, book the simple 'you + two' ceremony which is around £50 and you can book and tick the legals off before or after the real deal - the ceremony!

However, it's become very popular for couples to make more of an event of the registry office part too. You may remember the iconic black and white photos from Sophie Habboo and Jamie Laing's legal ceremony. Sophie opted for a short and structured Vivienne Westwood dress and Jamie looked smart in a black suit. They then had a celebrant lead their lavish celebration in Spain.

Some people prefer to have a registrar on the day who can do the legals at the same time, which is totally up to you. The difference is they will have to stick to a standard script, won't meet you until the day of the wedding, will be doing countless signings that dat and are restricted where they can perform ceremonies.

So if you're looking for something personal, different and what hitched call the hottest wedding trend of 2024, let's get chatting!
